I’m Lisa Dawson and I started “Bugs Unlimited” 15 years ago. It began with me hand embroidering ladybirds, worms, butterflies, bees and snails on trainers for my daughter. Everyone who saw the shoes loved them and many people began ordering Lisa’s “bug shoes”. The same embroidery then found its way on to vests and leggings and blankets as well as socks. For about 6 years I managed to do all this embroidery myself and was able to find the necessary items in shops. Other motifs were then found and my baby range expanded.
It was at this point that I was not only selling my products to friends, but also involved myself in small open-days. Everyone loved what I was making and they appreciated the quality of the items, so my stock needed to grow. It was then that I met Jackie Kolobe who is a highly skilled and professional embroiderer. With her help, I managed to increase my stock which allowed me to be involved in bigger market days including the highly successful charity “Amberley” market. Evelyn Ntsiki has now also joined me as my CMT which has enabled me to be more creative with my clothing and accessory designs.
All materials used are 100% natural and all the embroidery is done by hand in South Africa by South Africans.
